Alberta 55 plus believes that every individual 55 years of age and over has the fundamental right to the opportunity for enrichment, fulfillment and improved quality of life and health through a broad variety of recreation, sports and organized games. Alberta 55 plus provides a unified voice and a sociable atmosphere for older adults to engage in physical and other activities at the level of their choice.
The Games will involve approximately 1000 participants from across the province taking part in 15 different activities. Participants are 55 years and older and have competed in Zone playoffs to earn the opportunity to represent their Zone at the Games. Alberta 55 plus will have in place a Games Representative to provide administrative support, rules, activity booklet content and website updates/results.
In addition to the games themselves all participants are given the opportunity for social interaction through opening and closing ceremonies. A banquet is typically held the first night after registration.
Although by the very nature of the games is to declare a winner or winners the aspect of winning is secondary to the social side of the event which we try to emphasize. Winners will receive a gold, silver or bronze medal.
If your area in interested in hosting the games please feel free to contact us at any time, we will be happy to provide you with any information requested.
